Census results for Collier County and Florida
In Collier County, there are almost 2000 square miles making up the area which includes Naples, Everglades City, Marco Island, Ave Maria and a small portion of south Bonita Springs. The population is about 330,000 with an increase of 3.4% from 2010 to 2012 and 27.2% of the population is over the age of 65.
There are approximately 198,000 homes in Naples (and growing all the time due to Riverstone, Madison Park, Treviso Bay, Emerson Park in Ave Maria and others). Naples Florida census data shows that our home ownership rate is 76% which is higher than the state average and there are almost 120,000 households.
The median value of owner occupied homes from 2007 to 2011 is $317,000 but there are homes in every price range and we work with buyers in every price range. The median household income is $56,876 and 13% of the population is below the poverty level which is below the statewide level.
Almost 23% of the population is foreign born, higher than the state average of 19%. We have a number of residents from Latin and South America, Canada, and Europe who make up the population here. According to the recent census, 18.2 percent of Floridians are over age 65. That is the highest rate of any state in the nation; Maine and West Virginia came in at second and third.
The county with the highest number of residents over 65 is Sumter County which is where The Villages is located. Almost half of the residents are over age 65 but that is an area that caters to the retirement population more so than any other and that percentage is not unexpected.
The next highest population percentage of seniors is Charlotte County in Southwest Florida. Over 30% of the population is over age 65.
